Measuring & Installation

To select the correct size, measure the vertical height of the step or threshold. Ramp length is calculated using the simple formula:

Ramp length (B) = Height (A) × 10

Most ramps can be placed directly against the step on a clean, stable surface. For heavier ramps or complex layouts, professional installation is recommended.

Ramp gradient guidance (AS 1428.1)

Australian Standard AS 1428.1 provides guidance on ramp gradients used to overcome small steps and thresholds.

• Up to 35 mm height – maximum gradient 1:8
• 35 mm to 190 mm height – maximum gradient 1:10

These guidelines are commonly used when designing accessible environments, particularly in public and commercial buildings. For private residential settings they are generally used as best-practice guidance. In situations such as where space is limited, steeper ramps can still be installed.
